Is the IPad2 the solution?

So, I  currently have an Acer AspireOne Netbook and let me tell you, it has certainly served my needs on a basic level. However, as I get more and more intertwined in my job, I realize that this netbook is no longer up to my speed. Ironic, huh? But here's my problem: I want a nice sleek gadget, powerful, light-weight, easy to understand and interact with (as technology and myself aren't exactly friends -.-), and just fully functional. You know, something that's worth the money. So, what's the solution?

At one point, I had an ipod touch, but it was too small for me to comfortably work with. But I was satisfied with the user interface, and just the fact that it was an apple product. :)
The other day, I found out about the IPad2 and I began to do my research. In my mind, I wondered, "Why would they need to come out with an IPad2?" "What sets it apart from the IPad1?" "What are the benefits of spending my hard earned cash on something that looks like it can break in an instant?"

Based on my research, however, I'm only able to acknowledge the fact that like other technological upgrades, the software utilized is more advanced than the one before it. But anyways, here are my findings: (IPad vs. IPad 2)

So, I got this info from a great Wikipedia website that has the most concise description >.> of the IPad:
The iPad (pronounced /ˈaɪpæd/, EYE-pad) is a line of tablet computers designed, developed and marketed by Apple Inc. primarily as a platform for audio-visual media including books, periodicals, movies, music, games, and web content. Its size and weight falls between those of contemporary smartphones and laptop computers. The iPad runs the same operating system as the iPod Touch and iPhone—and can run its own applications as well as iPhone applications. Without modification, and with the exception of websites, it will only run programs approved by Apple and distributed via its online store.

Like iPhone and iPod Touch, the iPad is controlled by a multitouch display—a departure from most previous tablet computers, which used a pressure-triggered stylus—as well as a virtual onscreen keyboard in lieu of a physical keyboard. The iPad uses a Wi-Fi data connection to browse the Internet, load and stream media, and install software. Some models also have a 3G wireless data connection which can connect to HSPA data networks. The device is managed and synced by iTunes on a personal computer via USB cable.

Here's the description of the IPad 2: (wiki as well)
The iPad 2 is the second generation of the iPad, a tablet computer designed, developed and marketed by Apple Inc. It serves primarily as a platform for audio-visual media including books, periodicals, movies, music, games and web content, and is available in black or white. The Foxconn-manufactured iPad 2 has a lithium-polymer battery that lasts up to 10 hours, a new dual core Apple A5 processor and VGA front-facing and 720p rear-facing cameras designed for FaceTime video calling. The iPad 2 currently runs iOS 4.3.1, a similar system to previous iOS versions. The 4.3.1 system fixed bug with the graphics on the iPod touch, bugs related to activating and connecting to some cellular networks, authenticating with some enterprise web services. The iPad 2 includes a new A5 processor and front and rear cameras. Several components were made smaller to fit the new iPad.The iPad can play audio in mono using its built in speaker, or if attached to the Apple Digital AV Adapter, it can output Dolby Digital 5.1 stereo surround sound. Its frequency response ranges from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz.
There are four physical switches on the iPad 2 (same as 1st generation iPad), including a home button near the display that returns the user to the main menu, and three plastic physical switches on the sides: wake/sleep and volume up/down, plus a third which, for either screen rotation lock or mute. Business Insider states that the home button on the iPad 2 is "easier to double tap" than the previous generation of the iPad.

Apple has reduced the size of the iPad by eliminating the stamped sheet metal frame from the display, integrating new thinner glass technology for the touch screen overlay, and slightly reducing the space between the display and battery. The iPad 2's screen is thinner, lighter, and yet stronger than the original iPad's.
he revised tablet adds front- and rear-facing cameras, which allow FaceTime video calls with the iPhone 4, fourth-generation iPod Touch and Macintosh computers (running Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later with a webcam). The 0.3MP front camera shoots VGA-quality 30 fps video and VGA-quality still photos. The 0.7MP back camera can shoot 720p HD video at 30 fps[26] and has a 5x digital zoom. Both shoot photo and video in a 4:3 fullscreen aspect ratio, unlike the iPhone 4, which shoots in a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.

I'm liking what I see, and based on various reviews I've read as well as gotten from persons that are close to me, the IPad 2 seems like the better buy :). Of course there's more information but I think it's senseless to copy all since I got it from wiki. All that's left to say is that I'm sold!!

IPad 2 is clearly the solution for me. Upgrade to my professional look plus a real eye-catcher with the hawt layout an ting :). Yupyup, me likey! If you wish to dispute the facts (-.-) don't even bother.

First of all, I must say that Apple's iPad 2 ranks in the exquisite class of mobile technologies on the device market. Apple's products as you know are always world class and a cut above the rest, despite avid competition.

I anticipate that one of the biggest questions maybe " What are the features that will motivate developers to invest in this product?". The answer is simple and is found in Apple's latest technologies. It's truly exciting, TRULY. This value added device has all the advantages that you can imagine.

The iPad 2 has a more powerful processor and speedier graphics than its previous model ( the iPod) for smooth clear cut transition of applications. It's new fortified hardware set up allows the iPad 2 to be twice times faster than the previous model and graphics load a stunning NINE time faster. This feature makes the iPad 2 ideal for developers to create powerful mind blowing features and attractive programs.

Using the 2.0 GL Benchmark, the graphics performance is seven times faster than the Motorola Xoom Tablet. In addition, Apple's iOS is tested and proven to be extremely powerful and matchless by its competitors.  The iPad2 truly redefines what can be done on a mobile phone.

Cant find the I PAD 2 in Kingston; still searching though.

Let me just tell you man; I love the new Apple iPad 2. My only problem is that I can't seem to locate it at any of the major electronic stores in Kingston as yet. I will keep you posted on the fruits of my quest though.
The Apple iPad 2 is the innovation  of all innovations as it relates to information technology. This device bridges the divide between laptop computers and smart phones in so many ways.
The iPad 2 is a leap up from its little brother, the iPad, featuring several upgrades despite being launched in April, mere months after the launch of the iPad. It is CRAZY, not lying.
What I love about the iPad 2 is that at a mere 1.3 pounds this device is probably the lightest of all pieces of equipment in its class. Seperate from the front and rear cameras (which I am also crazy about), the device's size, weight and sliqueness is probably its most attractive features. I am talking about aesthetics at its finest, ladies and gentlemen!
Whats even more intriguing is that the device comes in black and white; so the choice is yours.
My colleauges have already mentioned the technological aspects of the iPad 2 but I will be doing a major injustice not to mention its A5 dual core processor which makes it twice as fast as the iPad.
The iPad2 rear camera is of superb VGA quality, a photographer's dream to handle. While the front camera, a whopping 720 pixels, is more than perfect for video conferences or just the day to day fooling around. So superb is the quality of the front camera that the device may soon replace the mirror! (Look out ladies, you might soon be fixing your make-up while looking at yourself through the lens of the ipad 2). But seriously, I love the cameras.
If I was amazed at the fact that some Blackberry phones turn to "Lock" mode upon holstering them in their cases, I would be flattened in awe at the capabilities of the iPad 2 carrying case. This is truly smart.
The cases, which come in about 10 colours, not only protects the device from the elements but can also be used to prop the device. Perfect to facilitate the perfect view for watching a movie or while typing.
Magnetic strips inside the cases also lock the device when it is in standby mode. Reasonably, the prices range from US $39.00 for a plastic case, and US $69 for a leather case.
Now down to the meat of the matter; cost.
So I did some research and although the iPad 2 is not cheap (if I should put it that way) its capabilities certainly makes up for its pricing.
The device comes in either WIFI only or WIFI/3G versions, and are equipped with either 16gb, 22gb, and 64 gb memory capacities.
In the US, the price ranges are as follows;
WiFi only: 16 gb: US $499                 WiFi/3G: 16gb: US $529
                  32gb: US $599                                  32gb: US $629
                  64gb: US $699                                  64gb: US $729
Sourcing an  iPad 2 in Jamaica is a little more tedious however. I visited two of the major electronic stores, Watts New and Innovative Systems, and none have any in store.
Watts New in Tropical Plaza, St Andrew, though currently out of stock, sells only the 16gb version of the device.
Its WiFi only version sells for $69, 950 + tax, while its Wifi/3G version sells for $79, 950 + tax.
Innovative Systems sells only the 32 gb version of the I Pad at a cost of $71, 670.
In all fairness, and as I said before, this device is worth every penny. I am certainly looking forward to investing in one of them. I promise to continue sourcing prices for you on the local scene so do stay tuned for updates.

Hey guys, just an update from me again. So I was told that Watts New now has the iPad 2 in stock. You can go check it out! (Photo: Apple.com)

My name is Laroune Francis, an insurance broker who, through recommendations by business associates and customers, took the initiative to buy the Ipad 2. Now I can never be sorry I purchased this piece of gadget. This product is amazing and I personally think this is the best product Apple has made up to date. This product has helped me in all my business endeavors as well as procreation and relaxation when it comes to my time off the job. The iPad is the best way to collaborate with colleagues, deliver and display presentations, and access, create and share business information. The large, high-resolution display allows your users to see their work like never before. iPad is incredibly thin and light, and provides instant-on access at the press of a button, so work is almost always at-hand. The Multi-Touch screen on iPad is incredibly precise and responsive, which allows your users to work using just their fingers, with little need for training or support. And with up to ten hours of battery life, iPad is always ready to work whenever your users are.

iPad ships with an amazing set of applications like Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Maps, Notes and Safari. In Mail, your users can quickly flick through emails, tap to respond, and pinch to zoom in and out of attachments. They can use Maps to get directions, check traffic, and explore their local area, and use Notes to capture and share ideas in meetings. And the Safari web browser on iPad puts the internet in your business user’s hands– whether it be public news and business sites, or protected, internal webpages. Out of the box, iPad is a productive business partner.
The ipad integrates with business through its Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino and standards-based messaging environments, to provide your users push email, calendar and contacts, right out of the box. And iPad supports the most common corporate VPN and Wi-Fi protocols for secure access to your company’s networks.
Data on iPad is secure, with full device encryption and support for passcode and other remote management policies. And iPad’s worldwide 3G coverage gives your users the ability to work and connect, even in the most remote locations.

Blind Perspective on Apple iPad 2

Jason Ricketts
 620011871
Visually-Impaired Advocate for iPad 2

I am representing the blind and visually impaired community, and I will be talking about the iPad  2 as it relates to compatibility for disabled persons. Just about everybody is talking about the new iPad 2 including us as visually impaired people.

Apple as for many years, provided many ways how blind and visually impaired persons can interact with their products or technologies, and the iPad 2 is no exception. The iPad has voice over technology integrated into the device that enables all aspects of the iPad to be utilized.

For those blind individuals who are worried about the touch screen being difficult to use, there is nothing to worry about. Blind individuals can glide their fingers over the screen, and as they glide their fingers, the options will be spoken aloud. When the users hear an option that they want to select, they can tap their fingers on that option twice, and that option will then be activated. Once again Apple come up trumps! Well done, you certainly show why you are rated among the best in the business!

myPAD is iDEAL for cOlLeGe

THATCHER K. ASPHALL
COLLEGE STUDENT

For all our students... Y walk around with a heavy laptop, when you can carry around a device that's 3X its size and 10X its weight??
Portability is definitely a plus for the iPad 2.
We can take notes in class, do our Term Papers and any research via the internet /Safari. Don't worry about the battery life, because the iPad 2 guarantees a maximum of 10 hour battery life, which is more than what our laptops guarantee. So with our iPad2, it can basically carry us through the whole school day, without us having to run to an outlet every 5 or 6 hours! :)... sorry laptops :(...

Now, for the lovely readers like myself (and even for you who may not love reading, but school forces you to)... don't think twice about getting this device.
The iPad 2 gives us the the ability to view PDF files, Kindle books; mobile blackboard and also buy and download items from the App Store books. How amazing is this!!!! It also has the virtual bookshelf feature in the iBook apps which yes, looks like a bookshelf where we can view and select the books we want to read. And for those of us who are neat freaks... we can organize our bookshelves based on author, genre, PDFs, comics, Term Papers or simply articles for particular subject areas

Its really a good read, because just like a regular book, we can flip through it, NOTES ON KEY PASSAGES AND bookmark the pages, so we can continue where we left off :)!!. We can read one page at a time in portrait and even two by just turning the device into a landscape position.
Addi tonally, with the Kindle, we can make highlights in the books! WOW... really awesome!

This device is like our home away from home, our away from the library, which most of us don't like anyway.

The books in the iBooks store are listed based on feature title - for example, New York Times best seller, most popular paid for books and free books as well. We can also view descriptions and ratings from other readers or browse by title, author or genre.
The font and text size with most iBooks can be changed. It also has the ability to skip through pages and chapters. There is a feature where we can touch and hold a word to "look up" in the built-in dictionary or just google it!!
Additionally, (and this is where i think most of us will go crazy), iBook has a VoiceOver Feature which is a screen reader, which yes... reads the books aloud! Cool... jus chill, eat... whatever while the iPad 2 reads to you.

For our media students, this is ideal as well since the iPad 2 has a front-facing VGA camera, we can put our journalistic practices in effect. The camera is also ideal for video chatting with our parents (mm-hmm) and our friends about homework and assignments.

Simply put, the iPad 2 is the safest and best choice for us college students. It may not be as  big and fast as a laptop, but the great number of applications are ideal for students.
Take it from Thatcher K. Asphall - "The Iron Lady"... I know quality when I "read" it!!
